Kacy Dowd Tillman is Professor of English and Writing and Director of Honors at the University of Tampa. Her research explores Romantasy, reader communities, literary fandom, and contemporary book culture, with particular attention to the explosive growth of fantasy romance and the communities that form around books and reading. She is co-editor of Feral: Romantasy and Its Readers (University of Iowa Press, forthcoming 2027) and has been interviewed about Romantasy and contemporary reading culture by outlets including Tablet Magazine and the Western Gazette.
In addition to her work on Romantasy, Tillman is an award-winning scholar of Early American literature, women’s writing, and Loyalism during the American Revolution. She is the author of Stripped and Script: Loyalist Women Writers of the American Revolution (University of Massachusetts Press, 2019). Her scholarship has appeared in journals including Early American Studies and American Literature and has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Tillman has presented more than thirty conference papers and invited lectures in the United States and internationally and is available for interviews and speaking engagements on Romantasy, fantasy romance, BookTok and reader culture, literary fandom, women’s popular fiction, Early American literature, and higher education.
